Let us consider the configuration where we have a 6-AMP system(AMP 0-5) and from this configuration, we have to create a new contiguous map with 4 AMPs (AMP 0-3).

Steps to be followed:

A contiguous map can be created with the help of CONFIG utility.

STEP 1: Review the number of existing AMPs

Run the below command from node

As we can see from the Vproc#, there are 6 AMPS.

STEP 2: Start the config utility

The CONFIG  program  provides the user with a facility  to review and update the configuration of the DBS thru  commands which are provided by this program.

Press <F7> for help.

The following contiguous maps are defined on this system:
TD_GlobalMap (Map Number 1) has Amps 0-5 and 2 PEs defined.
TD_DataDictionaryMap (Map Number 2) has Amps 0-5 and 2 PEs defined.
TD_Map1 (Map Number 1025) has Amps 0-5 and 2 PEs defined (System DefaultMap).

STEP 3: Define a new AMP configuration

As seen from above MAP Configuration, AMPs 4 & 5 are deleted from TD_Map2 and TD_Map2 contains four AMPs.

STEP 4:Create a table using the new contiguous map   

BTEQ — Enter your SQL request or BTEQ command:

Note: We have added the new MAP in the DDL

BTEQ — Enter your SQL request or BTEQ command:

As seen, the table has data on 4 AMPs only.

Extra points:

User-created map can be dropped using SQL. But to delete the map, we must first drop the table that uses that map. 

Example:

BTEQ — Enter your SQL request or BTEQ command:

Since the table table_1 uses this map, the map cannot be dropped.

BTEQ — Enter your SQL request or BTEQ command:

Since the table using the map has been dropped, the map will no longer be in use.

BTEQ — Enter your SQL request or BTEQ command:

The MAP has been dropped.
